Plus, our popular family activities continue online! Enjoy performances, art-making activities, kids’ films, and interactive workshops every day—all designed for you and your family to do from home. Activities are available in English and Spanish.

Free First Saturday also includes free gallery admission from 10 am to 5 pm. Gallery admission tickets are available on-site on the event day from the Main Lobby desk; quantities are limited.

Free First Saturday: You Pick
April 1, 10 am–3 pm
Do you collect anything? If you created a museum to display your collection, what would it be like? What would people do there? What would the walls and floors look like? This month at Free First Saturday, explore what it means to be a curator and experiment with collecting and comparing to create meaningful stories.

Free First Saturday: Pacita’s Party
May 6, 10 am–3 pm
Celebrate the life and work of artist Pacita Abad with a day of artist-led activities, immersive textile artworks, and vibrant colors wherever you look. In honor of Abad, you’re invited to come to Free First Saturday wearing your brightest hues and boldest patterns.

Sensory Friendly Sunday

Sensory Friendly Sunday is a monthly free event designed for kids, teens, and adults with sensory processing differences, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental disabilities. The galleries will be closed to the general public, allowing visitors to enjoy the museum in a calm environment with accommodations such as quiet spaces, fidgets, and sunglasses available. Experience a selection of current Walker exhibitions, make art, or watch a short film. All friends and family members are welcome.

While walk-ins are welcome, we encourage you to reserve your free ticket ahead of time.

On Sensory Friendly Sundays, we require visitors over age 2 to wear face masks inside the building to support the safety and comfort of families and attendees.

This program was created in consultation with the Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) and the University of Minnesota’s Occupational Therapy Program.

Weekly Public Tours

Looking to connect with contemporary art? A public tour at the Walker is a fun way to learn about the artworks on view, the ideas behind them, and the complex issues that they raise. Tours explore a selection of works across current exhibitions and include interactive discussion facilitated by Walker educators.

Thursday tours are always free; Saturday tours are free with the cost of admission. Public tours start in the Main Lobby and are free with gallery admission. No registration required, and participants of all ages are welcome. Please gather five minutes before the scheduled tour time.
